Thrill up your life!

At times I feel like there’s so much out there that I still need to discover. Life can be so boring you wish you were rather dead! Yeah I know I’m a bit exaggerating but I wish my life was a little more exciting.
Waking up every day and doing the same old things repetitively is what makes life boring. Although routine can make life a lot easier and organized, this can get boring after a while. I don’t like being in the same place for too long hence my mom and I don’t get along very well. Where I live, you are a well behaved girl if you stay in the house, go to school if you have to but come back home, do some chores and get bored by the same faces you see every day but stay indoors.
After all I’m still very young, hey, I might be a mom but I’m 23 not 32!

To balance your life, here are low cost ways to awaken the child in you! Bring back the Vava Voom with these simple steps:
1. Get yourself a new hobby!
This will depend on what interests you, you may like dancing, if you are a music lover, why not try making your own music? Start something new like looking on the internet how to crochet. You may not be sure if crocheting will excite you but just trying something you’ve never done before will shake things up in the process of finding what will work. Look for people where you live who do what you wish you could do professionally and ask them to be your mentor. This doesn’t require money because you could go to an old lady who knows how to crochet after your classes on your way home from school or work.

2. Do something you’ve never thought you could ever do.
Sometimes it isn’t that we can’t do things, it’s just that we tell ourselves this because we are not aware of what more we could do. We limit our abilities. Think of something you thought you wished you could try out but hesitated doing, like being the first to saying ‘hi’ to the girl in your class. Making friends for me wasn’t easy, I wasn’t popular and i still do find it difficult making conversation with strangers. Get out there and meet new people, start a new small business or do whatever!

3. Get involved!
Next up is to get yourself volunteering for an organisation aligned with your career. If you are a Journalism student, find some local publication and try and find out what it’s like to actually do the work. If you are an Admin student, why not help out at a local home for elders by helping out with the paperwork?

4. I would say maybe it’s time to end that relationship you’re in, but how about trying to find out how to make it exciting on its own?
Love is meant to be breathtaking, passionate and exciting right? So why not try to find out what exactly makes it non-exciting? Maybe spending too much time together? Doing the same activities and not making things interesting inside the bed? Consider being away for some time and miss each other or watching more exotic movies to revamp the romance. Sending each other cute messages so that both of you feel appreciated and loved.

5. Travel
This doesn’t mean pack up all your stuff and sell things if you hardly have the money and head to New York! I’d also love to go to New York some day, but what if this never happens? What if I never get to travel my whole life? Why not start in your hood? I’ve lived all my life in East London but there’s a lot more I still haven’t seen in this small town.

6. Change your career or quit your job!
I studied more than one course in my very short life which I don’t regret but feel like I could have done better if I knew what suited me. Maybe your dad was the best doctor in town and expects you to be an even better doctor some day. Or that you were pretty smart at school and everyone expected you to be big someday. Choosing the wrong career can put so much pressure on you because it will not be easy doing something you hate. Find something that will make you feel good at the end of the day.

7. Stay close to people who make you extremely happy and free
Stay away from those people who will be dragging you down all the time. Start owning your happiness, you deserve it! Choose who you hang out with and don’t let anyone tell you what to do. Laugh more than you cry.

8. Host a party or go out with friends
Partying is not something that I do more often but once in 6 months is much more exciting than every weekend! Why? Well partying all the time will also get you bored after some time, or you’ll end up doing it more than you should. You will be having a very strong urge to go out only if you haven’t gone out in a while. Are there musical events by local artists in your town? Why not go to those?

9. Try out new foods and learn about other cultures
South Africa is called a Rainbow nation for the diversity of cultures that are found in it. There should be a few people from other cultures where you stay. In my neighbourhood, there’s a shop owned by some Nigerian or Somalian in every corner. Spend some time with them; find out what their everyday life feels like.

10. This should have been the first point, Ditch your gadgets!!
Spend some time without your phone and laptop and go out there! Life on social media is exciting but real life is even more exciting!

The best way to live is if you are doing things that you like, not letting other people decide for you and not caring what others think except what you feel like. Mistakes are meant to be made but learnt from, Explore!
