To Quote Myself: A Memoir by Khaya Dlanga
Published: 2015
Rating: โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…

The book is written by one of the easily recognisable marketing gurus in South Africa. Khayalethu Dlanga writes this easy to read memoir about his life in Dutyini, a village in the Eastern Cape, how he ended up in Cape Town and how he got to where he is now, a bestselling author with many accolades under his belt- including a much-coveted Cannes Gold award. An award heโ€™s won twice.
To Quote Myself is not your typical memoir. Itโ€™s written very casually, denoting each event in a way thatโ€™s both informative and humorous. I personally enjoyed the story telling, how he was able to describe a scenario so well that I was able to picture it as he tells it. I was also in awe at how far he has come, from being homeless to a booming career. This story is not just about striving through adversity, and winning, but it proves how current circumstances arenโ€™t at all defining of what the future holds. And itโ€™s not just up to the universe, you must believe.
This page-turner has several life lessons that I feel would be beneficial to the reader. Whether reading about them for the first time, or just as a reminder, I recommend this book to anyone who needs the motivation to keep keeping on.
