7 ways you’re unintentionally wasting time

I find myself doing unnecessary things while I could be using that time doing something important. Now I’m no therapist and I’m not judging but this is not how we get things done.

Here’s my list of how we can help each other stop wasting our precious time! A little reminder?

Overthinking

When that light bulb sparks inside your brains alerting you of that multi million rand (I can’t say dollar I’m South African,ok? 😊) worth idea, it is wise to write it down immediately. You do not want to lose it, you want to get on with your life and be able to come back and continue from the previous work. Spending all day thinking about the idea when you should be doing other important everyday life stuff will not get you anywhere instead you’ll end up drifting away from the main idea.

Waiting for the right time

I do recomend being patient but not waiting around for the perfect time to do something which you had wasted enough time thinking about. Being patient is being hopeful that your small steps from the ultimate goal will actually pay off someday and you will see results. On the other hand waiting for the right time is putting things off doing nothing, miraculously hoping you will see results with little or no effort.

Being on social media all day!

We all love social media. It seems to me like our minds cannot really function without checking out our social media notifications and news feed as if missing out on other people’s business for the whole day is a crime. We could really save a lot of time if there was anything called social media rehab! Bloggers need social media skills but you should set the amount of time to spend on this activity.

Watching tv shows

I had to learn this one the hard way and once I stopped, watching tv shows did not become such an important issue of my life. Missing episodes of a series might feel like a lot to deal with but really, when did our feelings start being controlled by a box showing people imitating real life? They are doing their work, when are you doing yours?

Not prioritising

Having a list of weekly goals, monthly goals helps you save some time. You need to know what should be done first according to their importance. This will also help you stop doing the following point.

Multi tasking

This is a great skill to have! It makes you feel like SUPERWOMAN doesn’t it! It does, however, when you are doing a lot of things at the same time chances of you burning out are really high. Focusing on one task at a time could result in more projects getting quicker and in more detail. Although there are times you could have wasted time on social media and now you to make up for that time by both writing and editing in a short period of time compromising the quality of your work in the process. You should try hire someone who knows what they’re doing or ask them to help you. We can’t all be web designers.

Not investing in your health

Investing in your health could mean taking breaks to fuel up and freshen up. It could mean doing your favourite hobby, listening to music or reading. These help your mind stay in its right position and prevent burning out (check this post on this). You are not wasting time by doing these, you actually need to prioritise them as they are highly important for your functionality. ‘You can’t pour from an empty cup’.😆

It does save one’s time but I prefer doing one thing at a time. What works for one person might not work for the other. I say do it if it works for you. 😊
